Physician - Surgical Hospitalist

About the Role
The incumbent is responsible for providing comprehensive inpatient care and new patient consultations from the Emergency Room/ICU/Inpatient service for General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Cardiothoracic Surgery, and serving as First Assist during surgeries, as required.

- →The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs.
- →Communicate as necessary with the surgical attending any significant change in medical condition or post operative complication.
- →Attend any E-Team activation for General/Vascular/Cardiothoracic patients.
- →Perform minor procedures following standardized informed consent and time out procedures for conditions such as abscesses, chest tube placement, and other bedside interventions, as needed.
- →Provide in house call coverage after hours, including weekends and holidays.
- →Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes.
- →Serve as First Assist during surgical procedures, collaborating closely with surgeons and operating room staff.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Complete TB Testing and Immunization evaluations.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.

- ✓Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
