About the Role

The Bruce W. Carter VA Medical Center VA Healthcare System's, Spinal Cord Injury Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Physician (Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation/Spinal Cord Injury or Internal Medicine with some experience in Spinal Cord Injury). Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program. You must be an excellent communicator and team player.

What You'll Do

  • Their duties are designed to optimize recovery, prevent complications, and improve quality of life.
  • Duties includes but are not limited to: Provides expert level clinical care in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Service specific evaluations, diagnose, and treatment including using telehealth modalities.
  • Utilize effective communication skills at all levels to enhance team functioning, patient care coordination, and leadership.
  • Provide clinical care for all general rehabilitation populations.
  • Provide consultation to professional staff within Facility and community providers concerning clinical assessment findings and appropriate patient .treatment plans.
  • Develop, implement and document the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Service treatment plan for an assigned caseload of patients, including prompt completion of clinical reminders.
  • Provides education to patients, family members and significant others.
  • Develops innovative educational materials and processes to enhance the expertise of providers from a wide array of backgrounds, within the Polytrauma System of Care, medical center, university, the community, and within VISN 8.
  • Monitor local performance in the national performance measures and develop processes to ensure completion of those measures.
  • Liaisons with other health care programs, if necessary, to effectively coordinate service or patient care.
  • Attends and participates in administrative and informational meetings held by the Service Line Director, or designee.
  • Provides clinical supervision & instructions for PM&RS residents, as well as medical students as assigned.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
