About the Role
James A Haley VA Radiation Oncology Service is looking for a Board Certified or Board Eligible Radiation Oncologist. The Radiation Oncology Service is a part of a large, complex, VA Medical Center with consults and referrals from VISN Medical Centers and outpatient clinics. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy.
What You'll Do
- →The Radiation Oncologist is responsible for all functions which fall under the scope of care of Radiation Oncology Service (ROS).
- →These include clinical and administrative management, either directly or through delegated authority of the following: Initial patient evaluation.
- →Patient simulation, radiation treatment plan and prescription.
- →Patient management during treatment.
- →Follow-up care post treatment.
- →Consultation with other services.
- →Provide emergency care.
- →Research initiatives.
- →Resident supervision/education.
- →Works with and is supported by Radiation Oncology Service leadership.
- →Provides direct clinical and administrative oversight for mid-level practitioners, physics, dosimetry, radiation therapists and other clinical staff as assigned.
- →Responsible for providing services in an efficient, high-quality, cost-effective manner within budget allocation.
- →Works directly with Chief, Radiation Oncology Service to assist in ensuring adequate and appropriate staffing.
- →Participates in recruitment, hiring, evaluation and disciplinary actions for staff.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP) - See "Additional Information" below for details.
- ✓Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Radiation Oncology.
- ✓Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- ✓The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.
