About the Role
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

- →This physician excels in interdisciplinary collaboration, working seamlessly with psychologists, social workers, nurses, pharmacists, and peer support specialists to coordinate care and consistently close communication loops within a BHIP team.
- →The preferred candidate is proficient in telepsychiatry best practices, including professional video conduct, thorough virtual risk screening, reliable PDMP review, and high-quality EHR documentation.
- →This psychiatrist delivers trauma-informed, recovery-oriented care rooted in evidence-based psychiatry.
- →Additionally, the ideal applicant is experienced in managing complex psychopharmacologic treatments such as clozapine, buprenorphine, long-acting injectable antipsychotics, and management of controlled substances, and is skilled in evaluating and treating symptoms refractory to first-line interventions.
- →Provides a full range of psychiatric services.
- →Diagnoses mental disorders particularly for complex or unusually difficult patients. b.
- →Provides comprehensive interventions. c.
- →Provides consultation to professional staff within the other specialty programs in the Mental Health Service. d.
- →Develops, implements, and documents the psychotherapeutic treatment plan for an assigned caseload of patients, including prompt completion of clinical reminders. e.
- →Functions independently as a member of the VA ECHCS Medical Staff, with full clinical privileges.
- →Assumes complete professional responsibility for their clinical assessment findings, patient care decisions, and documentation. f.
- →Provides outreach services to veterans and family members. g.
- →For Virtual Staff Psychiatrists: Conducts telework appointments either to a clinic (i.e., telehealth) or to the patient's device (i.e., VA Video Connect).
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
