About the Role
Note: The utilization of Fee Basis appointments is centered on the service needs rather than a specified tour of duty. The Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center is seeking a Fee Basis Physician in Primary Care. The candidate will be responsible for conducting comprehensive patient histories, examinations, diagnoses, and treatments of medical condition
What You'll Do
- →This is an open continuous announcement that will remain open until filled.
- →Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis.
- →Eligible applicants will be referred each week for consideration until a selection is made.
- →Duties include but not limited to the following; Because short-notice; ad hoc, fee-basis work is as-needed at times, the ideal physician must be adaptable and ready to perform clinical duties that may arise on short notice.
- →Provide comprehensive primary care to assigned or walk-in Veterans in accordance with PACT principles.
- →Diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical conditions for adult and geriatric patients.
- →Perform and document histories, physical examinations, and assessments.
- →Order and interpret appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies.
- →Prescribe medications and treatments as appropriate.
- →Participate in daily team huddles and care planning when present acting as a member of the Patient Aligned Care Team as needed.
- →Communicate effectively with team members about patient status and care plans.
- →Respond to clinical duties as scheduled or requested, which may include coverage for absences, overflow, or urgent/emergent needs.
- →Provide timely assessment and intervention for urgent walk-in or telehealth patients during scheduled shifts.
- →Completes encounters and responds to view alerts in a timely manner, ensuring accurate and prompt documentation in the electronic medical record in accordance to VHA policy.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-placement evaluation.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.

- ✓Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
