About the Role
The outpatient psychiatrist performs general psychiatric assessment and treatment in a multidisciplinary setting and works closely with colleagues to provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art outpatient mental health care and is s a key participant in implementing the principles of the recovery model in mental health. The psychiatrist will work 2 days in person Fort Knox, Grayson 1 day in person, 1 day VVC, and eventually Elizabethtown 1 day VVC.
What You'll Do
- →Duties include but are not limited too: The psychiatrist provides treatment for beneficiaries with general mental disorders in a variety of treatment settings including via video teleconferencing technology.
- →The psychiatrist must be skilled in psychotherapy and psychopharmacology.
- →The psychiatrist must be able to provide a comprehensive clinical/psychiatric summary.
- →The psychiatrist will help to ensure accreditation requirements are met including reviewing checklists for compliance with The Joint Commission, CARF, and/or HAP.
- →The psychiatrist documents patient care in the patient chart via the Computerized Patient Record System.
- →Training regarding the use of the Computerized Record System will be provided by the VAMC.
- →All Documentation shall be completed in accordance with VA policy and procedures.
- →The psychiatrist follows VA guidelines regarding infection control and safety.
- →The psychiatrist will be assigned to treatment teams and adhere to team meeting responsibilities including treatment planning.
- →The psychiatrist will adhere to all quality management performance measures.
- →The psychiatrist will complete clinical reminders, encounters, and clinical pertinence reviews as directed.
- →The psychiatrist will, when called upon, engage in a collaborative agreement with a nurse practitioner and/or provide clinical supervision to a physician assistant.
- →The psychiatrist will provide clinical supervision to psychiatry residents and medical students on rotation on the inpatient unit.
- →The psychiatrist will provide on call services to the facility after 4:30pm on a rotating basis.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.

- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.

- ✓Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
