About the Role

VA Central California Health Care System is currently seeking a full-time Physician - Orthopedic Surgeon. The incumbent reports to the Service Chief of the Surgical Service team. This position is critical to the VA's mission to provide high-quality, Veteran-centered care.

What You'll Do

  • **This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 25th, 2026.
  • The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be August 12, 2026 with subsequent cut-off dates every 2 weeks.

  • The Otolaryngologist will provide consultation and care for our patients in the Department of Surgery.
  • Major duties include, but are not limited to: Evaluates and treat patients for any disease that needs ENT surgery and/or treatment to achieve palliation or cure.
  • Screen outpatients and inpatients to determine need for further care.
  • Performs initial histories and physical examinations on inpatients and outpatients, as well as major and minor surgical procedures.
  • Prescribe medications, order diagnostic studies such as lab tests, x-rays, electrocardiograms (EKGs) and CT scans.
  • Provides educational instruction and training for UCSF Fresno residents/fellows assigned to Surgery rotations at the VA, and makes sure that the robust educational curriculum is followed to meet the educational needs of post-graduate training program.
  • Meets the needs of customers while supporting the medical center and service missions.
  • Consistently communicates and treats customers (patients, visitors, volunteers, and all medical center staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
  • Provide on call coverage as determined by Service Chief.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
  • Complete TB Testing and Immunization evaluations.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
