About the Role
VA Black Hills is seeking an Intermittent Orthopedic Surgeon to care for Veterans within the Surgical Care Service Line in Fort Meade, SD.

- →Major Duties and Responsibilities: Diagnoses and treats all the common orthopedic surgical conditions, including surgical and non-surgical treatment of diseases and injuries to the musculoskeletal system.
- →Participates in afterhours call schedule and possesses the ability to respond promptly in emergent situations.
- →Responsible for seeing patients in consultation in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- →Provides care of the Veterans' medical needs by performing examination, surgical consultation, and developing treatment and follow-up plans.
- →Provides ongoing patient and family education throughout the course of treatment.
- →Adheres to policies and procedures regarding the completion of all required orders, operation/procedure notes/reports, discharge summaries, progress notes, clinical reminders, all other required medical documentation, and performance measures in a timely fashion.
- →Ensures the most effective delivery of care, while meeting and exceeding compliance, Joint Commission, and VA Central Office performance measure standards.
- →Mentors, trains, and provide supervision for residents and mid-levels in all aspects of their duties as required.
- →Performs other directly related duties as required.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship: non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

- ✓English Language Proficiency.
- ✓In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
