About the Role

Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): Eligible for the EDRP, student loan payment reimbursement program. Eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of your start date. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Recruitment/Relocation Incentive Authorized.

What You'll Do

  • The Orthopedic Surgeon is a specialty professional in the care of musculoskeletal conditions.
  • The Orthopedic Surgeon will evaluate and treat patients for any disease which need orthopedic diagnosis and/or medical/ surgical intervention to achieve palliation or cure.
  • The Orthopedic Surgeon will provide consultation and care for our patients in the Department of Surgery.
  • The Orthopedic Surgeon will have assigned OR time and clinic time and will take call for orthopedic conditions.
  • The candidate will work to maintain a safe working environment, and identify and address issues and concerns as they relate to safety and well-being within the Surgical Service.
  • The Orthopedic Surgeon will provide direct patient care in outpatient clinic, inpatient setting, operating room, Emergency department and other locations as deemed necessary by Chief of Surgery or Facility leadership.
  • Major duties include, but are not limited to: Delivering the best possible orthopedic care to our Veteran patients.
  • Participating in and / or managing aspects of a general orthopedic surgical practice to include clinical, administrative, and possible academic components.
  • Participating in and / or managing a broad range of orthopedic practice.
  • This includes all areas of general orthopedic and musculoskeletal surgery to include major joint reconstructive services.
  • Performing surgery and providing pre-op and post-op care as indicated for major and minor procedures, as well as orthopedic consultation for inpatients and outpatients.
  • Maintaining good diagnostic, judgmental, and therapeutic acumen.
  • Timely documentation (notes and encounter forms) in accordance with facility / VHA policy.
  • Duties involving preventative medicine, emergency preparedness, Joint Commission, and other internal and external health systems requirements deemed by the Chief of Surgery.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
