About the Role

The Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr., VAMC in Memphis, TN is recruiting for a Neurology Physician to serve as a full-time Specialty Care physician. The position is accountable to the Chief of Specialty Care, for assuring the most effective delivery of state-of-the-art care by meeting or exceeding compliance standards.

What You'll Do

  • General duties include, but are not limited to: Clinical practice, supervising and teaching Neurology fellows, residents and medical students.
  • Providing consultation on various forms of neurological disease states, both for diagnosis and treatment in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Share attending call responsibilities with other Neurologists in covering some nights, weekends and holiday calls as needed.
  • The physician will round with the team of fellow(s), resident(s), and medical student(s) as regards to inpatient settings. lead and manage the Neurology team consisting of Neurology fellows, residents, medical students, Pharmacists, Mid-Level Providers, etc. while on inpatient service or in clinical setting.
  • Collaborating and supervising physician will be the Section Chief, Neurology.
  • Recognizing patients appropriate for referral or consultation with the collaborating physician.
  • Consultations with collaborating physicians may occur through personal, telephone, or electronic media contact.
  • Co-signature of resident and student notes will be required for the admission history, physical examination and admission plan for new patients as well as daily plan care/progress note for established patients.
  • Discharge notes and discharge summaries will be electronically co-signed.
  • A discharge order maybe written with the concurrence of the physician.
  • Clinical activities may include, but are not limited to, clinical assessment and evaluation - Inpatients and Outpatients.
  • Health care management of assigned veteran patients with acute and chronic illnesses.
  • Ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic studies.
  • Ordering consultation and referrals - Inpatients and Outpatients.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
