About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

What You'll Do

  • The Staff Physician for Internal Medicine serves as a key member of both the Primary Care and Community Care teams at the VA Manchester Healthcare System, providing clinical and administrative expertise.
  • The incumbent reports to the Chief, Office of Community Care (OCC).
  • This dual role supports the mission to deliver comprehensive, coordinated, Veteran-centered health care.
  • Primary Care Duties Provides direct primary care to Veterans in outpatient settings at the Manchester VAMC and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).
  • Performs patient evaluations and physical exams, orders and interprets diagnostic tests (blood, fluid, imaging studies), formulates treatment plans, and provides appropriate medical care.
  • Maintains timely, accurate documentation in the electronic medical record; completes progress notes and all required forms.
  • Provides clinical guidance to PAs, NPs, and other clinical staff as requested.
  • Responsible for the continuity and coordination of care within the Primary Care service line and across other specialty services as necessary.
  • Manages acute and chronic illnesses, preventive screenings, patient education, and transitions of care.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient-centered care, including communication with specialists, social workers, clinical pharmacists, and nurses.
  • Fosters positive working relationships within Primary Care and with other VA staff. ensuring barriers to Veteran care are minimized.
  • Participates in quality improvement and peer review activities, compliance readiness, hospital committees, department meetings, and initiatives to advance service delivery.
  • Engages in continuous professional development, maintains BLS/ACLS certification, and completes all mandatory training on time.
  • Serves as a preceptor, mentor, or educator for trainees, students, and other staff as assigned.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
