About the Role
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
What You'll Do
- →The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVACHS) is seeking to add a full-time daytime hospitalist to our Hospitalist Division.
- →The physician will participate as the attending physician.
- →We have both teaching and non-teaching teams in the daytime; the nocturnist team is a teaching team.
- →On teaching teams, the attending is responsible for the instruction of residents, interns, and possibly medical students.
- →The candidate should be proficient in core Internal Medicine invasive procedures; refresher training is available in our excellent simulation laboratory.
- →Commitment to excellence in patient care and an interest in teaching are essential.
- →A record of contribution to the scientific literature is preferred, as is a willingness to participate in clinical trials.
- →Experience with resident supervision and instruction is appreciated, but new Internal Medicine graduates are also welcome; our University affiliate offers classes on effective teaching.
- →The Tucson VA is a tertiary care facility providing a full range of clinical services including complex coronary angioplasty, electrophysiology, structural heart procedures, cardiac surgery, Mohs surgery, neurosurgery, navigational bronchoscopy and 24/7 STEMI services.
- →SAVAHCS has been a flagship quality provider within the VA and was a 2012 winner of the prestigious Robert W.
- →Carey Performance Excellence Award.
- →In the recently released CMS hospital ratings, we are a five-star facility.
- →We are in a growth area for the VA; consequently, the VA is open to major capital investment in our facility.
- →We have a hybrid OR and are in the construction phase for expansions of Primary Care and Emergency Medicine.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
