About the Role
VA Central California Health Care System is currently seeking a full-time Physician - Hospitalist - Nocturnist. The incumbent reports to the Chief Hospitalist of the Specialty Care Service team. This position is critical to the VA's mission to provide high-quality, Veteran-centered care.
What You'll Do
- →**This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 25th, 2026.
- →The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be July 20th, 2026, with subsequent cut-off dates every 2 weeks.

- →Responsibilities include providing overnight inpatient care, supervising Residents admissions, responding to acute events, performing cross-cover duties, and ensuring continuity of care during night hours.
- →Major duties include, but are not limited to: Perform all overnight admissions.
- →Provide cross-coverage for all medical inpatients.
- →Evaluate and respond to acute overnight clinical issues.
- →Collaborate with nursing, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and ancillary departments.
- →Supervise residents and trainees assigned to night duty.
- →Complete timely documentation, including admission notes, event notes, and cross cover assessments.
- →Ensure complete handoff to the daytime Hospitalist team.
- →Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.

- ✓Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
