About the Role

The Cincinnati, OH VA Medical Center is seeking a Physician to work as Gastroenterologist at our facility. The primary role is to provide clinical care in Gastroenterology and to oversee the educations of Residents, Fellows, and Medical Students. What You'll Do

  • Gastroenterologist's primary role is to provide clinical care in Gastroenterology and Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and to oversee the educations of Residents, Fellows, and Medical Students within his/her practice area.
  • Assigned duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Serves as acting chief of the section (if appropriate), as needed.
  • Provides guidance and support to the nurse practitioners assigned to Medical Service in their respective areas of expertise.
  • Provides guidance and supervision for the medical students and residents (interns, residents, and/or fellows) assigned to General Medicine House Service/subspecialty services and clinics according to facility standards when assigned to do so by the Chief, Medical Service.
  • Participates in the formal education of the residents, fellows and medical students by presenting teaching rounds, lectures, conferences, etc.
  • Participates in grading sessions for medical students and GME trainees assigned to their services.
  • Demonstrates and trains medical students/resident, fellows in medical procedures that are required to provide optimal patient care appropriate to their expertise.
  • Revises work schedules and assignments to meet frequent, abrupt, and unpredictable changes in prescribed workloads and deadlines to meet patient care, healthcare, agency needs.
  • Participates in various facility programs designed to enhance and improve the delivery of patient care services, such as Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams, as assigned by Section Chief and or Chief of Medical Service.
  • Demonstrates commitment to high quality customer service, including specific measures identified as performance goals by the Medical Center.
  • Adheres to all information security and privacy measures set by VHA and the Medical Center.
  • Has approved clinical privileges in the areas of his/her expertise and in all areas required to carry out the duties of his/her assignments/responsibilities within Medical Services.
  • Maintains required mandatory training for privileges.
  • Facilitate the delivery of appropriate patient care in collaboration with other health professionals, medical center staff, and management.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
