About the Role

The Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center is seeking a Physician for a detail (not-to-exceed 120 days) to the Deputy Chief of Staff position. This detail is only open to current employees of the Veterans Health Administration. Must also be a physician in a surgical specialty.

What You'll Do

  • The Deputy Chief of Staff's responsibilities include serving as the lead physician during absence of the Chief of Staff.
  • The incumbent will work with the clinical service chiefs and performance measure champions to improve processes to meet the performance measure goals and improve utilization management.
  • Reviews requests for contracts and helps determine the best way to obtain the required resources.
  • When problems arise with transfers into and out of the Robert J.
  • Dole VAMC, works with service chiefs, residents, transfer coordinators, as well as the other facilities as needed to effectively coordinate transfers.
  • The Deputy supervises a variety of staff, who are aligned under the Chief of Staff Office, and serves on a broad spectrum of medical center committees, task forces, etc.
  • Allocation will be 40% administrative and 60% clinical in the discipline of the incumbent's board certification.
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
