About the Role
This position is eligible for Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

- →The medicine service is responsible for the medicine subspecialties with inpatient and outpatient consultation and procedural care, dermatology, hospital and ICU/CCU medicine, and an emergency department.
- →Responsibilities will include working with the Chief of Medicine in an administrative leadership role to assure excellence in our 3-tier mission of clinical care, education, and research.
- →The physician would be anticipated to provide clinical care in an area of general internal medicine, an internal medicine subspecialty, dermatology, or in emergency medicine as part of non-administrative work.
- →Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Collaborating with colleagues in developing, implementing, and evaluating philosophy, objectives, policies, and standards essential for delivering optimal care to patients.
- →Mentors and supports physicians, nurturing their professional growth and development.
- →Guide the development and implementation of programs such as medical practice, professional standards, personnel issues, quality, and performance improvement.
- →Responsible for recruiting and hiring clinicians; monitoring provider performance and medical outcomes.
- →Recommend clinical privileges for each member of the service and engages in clinical service activities in his/her area of specialization.
- →Represents the institution in medical conferences, seminars, and professional associations to stay up to date of the latest advancements.
- →Collaborates with other service chiefs and program managers at VA HCS.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.

- ✓Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
