About the Role
The position involves inpatient and outpatient Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine.
What You'll Do

- →Applicants must possess a full and unrestricted license in any state and must qualify for an academic appointment at Wayne State University.
- →Applicants must be board certified in Internal Medicine, with subspecialty certification in Pulmonary Disease.
- →Critical Care Medicine and Sleep Medicine boards are desirable.
- →Duties of the position include, but are not limited to: Attending responsibilities for the ICU team Teaching is an integral part of the work of a VA staff Pulmonologist.
- →Teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and Fellows is required.
- →The staff Pulmonary/ Critical Care Specialist exercises corporate citizenship by serving as leader and/or active member on Medical Center committees as requested.
- →Inpatient and/ or outpatient consultations for Pulmonary and Critical Care.
- →Must be eligible for an academic appointment with the Wayne State University School of Medicine.
- →The staff Pulmonary/ Critical Care Specialist provides expanded access to services via off normal tour or on call periods.
- →Proficiency in procedures including intubation, general bronchoscopy, EBUS, thoracentesis, chest tube placement, arterial line placement, central line placement, paracentesis, and lumbar puncture.
- →Reviews, examines, selects diagnostic testing appropriately, and interprets/ collates results to coordinate patient care.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.

- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.

- ✓Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
