About the Role
The Chief Process Improvement Officer (CPIO) serves as an executive leader responsible for advancing operational excellence, system redesign, and continuous improvement across the Mental Health Care Line (MHCL) at VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System. The CPIO provides strategic direction for initiatives that enhance care coordination, quality of patient experience, and team-based functioning. Ensures clinical workflows are reliable, data-driven and aligned with organizational priorities.
What You'll Do
- →VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.

- →Conducts assessments of Mental Health Program workflows, including triage, secure messaging, care coordination, patient flow, and team-based practice.
- →Continuous Improvement Program Oversight.
- →Designs and maintain improvement frameworks using Lean, Six Sigma, High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles, and Systems Redesign methodology.
- →Establishes structures for problem-solving, including daily management systems, Kaizen events, A3 projects, huddles, and standard work.
- →Ensure sustainment plans are in place for all improvement actions.
- →Supports ACOS office in collecting and interpreting performance data related to quality of Mental Health care, patient flow, care coordination, patient experience, and staff engagement.
- →Training, Coaching, and Workforce Development.
- →Serves as an educator in process improvement methodologies.
- →Develops and delivers training for leaders, supervisors, and staff across Mental Health.
- →Coaches Mental Health staff in structured problem-solving and communication to strengthen team functioning.
- →Change Management and Culture Transformation.
- →Guides organizational change activities to support adoption of new workflows, technologies, and care models.
Requirements
