About the Role
The Overton Brooks VA Medical Center is actively seeking applicants for the Chief of Staff (COS). Searching for a board-certified physician who is an energetic and visionary leader with strong leadership, managerial, organizational, communication, and clinical skills who can build upon the strengths of the current clinical services.

- →The COS plays an active role in maintaining strong relationships with affiliated academic institutions, recruiting highly qualified licensed independent practitioners, ensuring compliance with VA and accreditation requirements, supporting research and education programs, and fostering a culture of continuous process improvement, patient safety, and exceptional Veteran-centered care.
- →Duties include but are not limited to the following: Demonstrates outstanding clinical judgement and leadership in ensuring delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.
- →Interprets and evaluates clinical information to support effective decision-making and patient outcomes.
- →Ensures timely and appropriate treatment and intervention throughout clinical services.
- →Recognizes emergency situations and ensures prompt and appropriate action.
- →Maintains confidentiality and protects patient privacy in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
- →Develops and maintains evidence-based clinical and management practices throughout the organization.
- →Ensures compliance with Medical Staff Bylaws and serves as Chair of the Medical Executive Council and other assigned clinical oversight committees.
- →Operates under the Executive Career Field Performance Plan and is evaluated by the Medical Center Director.
- →Serves as a mentor and leader for physicians, licensed independent practitioners, residents, allied health professionals, and administrative staff.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass Pre-Placement Evaluation.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

- ✓Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
