About the Role

The Mann-Grandstaff VA Healthcare System is dedicated to the delivery and continuity of high quality patient care. The full-time Cardiologist is responsible for providing direct clinical care to the Veteran population and functioning as an integral member of the Medicine Service team. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). See "Duties" below for more information. This is an open continuous announcement. See "Additional Information" below.

What You'll Do

  • The duties and responsibilities of a staff cardiologist encompass a balance of direct patient care, administrative tasks, educational roles, and research activities.
  • These responsibilities ensure the provision of high-quality, evidence-based care while contributing to the ongoing advancement of cardiology.
  • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as EKGs, echocardiograms (including stress, dobutamine, and transesophageal echocardiograms), stress tests, Holter monitors, event recorder studies, and cardiac catheterizations.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients with cardiovascular conditions such as coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, and hypertension.
  • Prescribe medications and provide ongoing management to patients, adjusting treatment regimens as needed based on patient responses.
  • Perform and/or supervise interventional electrophysiological procedures.
  • Educate patients on lifestyle modifications to reduce cardiovascular risk, including diet, exercise, and smoking cessation.
  • Conduct regular follow-up visits to monitor patient progress and make necessary adjustments to their care plans.
  • Diagnose, treat, and manage patients with cardiac diseases using standard, accepted methods and techniques, maintaining current knowledge and skills.
  • Perform general cardiology examinations on established or newly consulted patients, including e-consultations in Cardiology clinics.
  • Identify, evaluate, and address cardiac diseases, prevention, and health promotion issues of the Veteran population.
  • Manage referrals/consults and provide education and counseling to Veterans in preventive care, applying evidence-based care for various cardiac conditions.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough patient records, including clinical notes, treatment plans, and follow-up documentation in electronic health record (EHR) systems. - Complete administrative tasks such as billing and coding.
  • Work collaboratively with other healthcare providers, including primary care physicians, surgeons, specialists, and advanced practitioners to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
