What You'll Do

- →Accreditation is by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) and the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).
- →The Associate Chief of Staff for Research and Development (ACOS/R&D) is a part-time (36 hours per week) Executive Career Field position and reports to the Healthcare System Director through the Chief of Staff (COS).
- →The ACOS/R&D has senior leadership responsibility for all administrative and budgetary operations of the R&D Service and for the supervision and evaluation of Service personnel.
- →Duties of the ACOS/R&D include but are not limited to: The ACOS/R&D, as designated by the Healthcare System Director, is responsible for the oversight of all research-related activities including the Research Safety and Security Program, the Human Research Protection Program, and the Animal Care and Use Program.
- →Responsible for assuring the continuing high quality of the facility's R&D program and the planning and development of the broad objectives of the program so that it supports the patient care mission of Department of Veterans Affairs and the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System.
- →The ACOS/R&D, as designated by the Healthcare System Director, is responsible for compliance with both VISN and Central Office (CO) mandated research policies including those issued by the Office of Research and Development (ORD) and the Office of Research Oversight (ORO).
- →Promotes effective communication and working relationships between the facility and its affiliates so adherence to the requirements of the affiliation agreements can be met by all involved parties.
- →Integrates the needs of the affiliation relationship with the research and patient care needs at the facility.
- →Assists in the recruitment of qualified Medical and R&D staff including scientific and technical personnel.
- →Performs specialty specific research as the Principal Investigator, Co-Principal Investigator, or Co-Investigator on funded and/or unfunded investigations.
- →Promotes an environment to that promotes research throughout the healthcare system.
Requirements
