About the Role
The Pharmacy Controlled Substance/Automation Technician is certified, highly specialized technician and is responsible for the first line management of all controlled substances handled by the pharmacy for the assigned area.
What You'll Do
- →Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional This position requires thorough knowledge and understanding of federal, VA, and facility regulations regarding controlled substances and pharmacy processes in general and involves performing complex procedures over a range of functions.
- →The incumbent will consistently demonstrate independent technical judgement and comprehensive and thorough knowledge of associated VA policies and procedures.
- →The incumbent must be highly organized and demonstrate a concerned and critical attitude toward accuracy, detail, control, and loss management and function with minimal supervision.
- →In addition to working in the pharmacy vault, responsibilities include but are not limited to: Prepare, fill, and dispense controlled substance according to policies and procedures.
- →Conducts regularly scheduled inventories every 72 hours and daily if needed according to regulations and policies.
- →Assists the Controlled Substance Compliance Inspectors to complete the monthly inspections.
- →Coordinates, manages, completes, and documents the purchasing of all prescription and non-prescription drug products and supplies.
- →Maintains, verifies, stocks, and replaces outdated CS medications from stock including inpatient wards, inpatient/outpatient storage cabinets, vaults.
- →Maintains accurate electronic inventory through decrementing prescriptions, entering received inventory, transferring to automated dispensing cabinets, dispensing on green sheets, and transferring to other dispensing vaults.
- →Coordinates the technical aspects of pharmacy drug distribution activities to ensure standard operating procedures are aligned with automation capabilities so that efficiencies are maximized.
- →Evaluates and analyzes workflow and coordinates all work activities involved with Pharmacy automation.
- →Trains and orients pharmacy staff, and other medical center staff involved in operating the automation.
- →Provides data for workload reports and process improvement projects to appropriate supervisors.
- →Performs duties of all lower grade technicians as needed.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
