About the Role
The primary responsibility is to provide supervision, professional, and administrative leadership and guidance to the Outpatient Pharmacy section of the Martinsburg VAMC in Martinsburg, WV. The incumbent manages and coordinates comprehensive pharmaceutical care activities in an ambulatory care setting for medical and surgical programs and operates under broad delegation of authority, with independence of action, to coordinate all aspects of outpatient pharmacy services to the medical center.
What You'll Do
- →Administrative/Supervisory/Program Management Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Outpatient Pharmacy section, Pharmacy Service, Martinsburg VAMC.
- →Pharmacy operations include managing the consolidated inventory program, CITC, the Immediate Need Prescription process, the drug accountability program, CMOP fill and reject management, and the Outpatient Pharmacy controlled substances program (including the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program).
- →Manages the CMOP program, the drug accountability program, and the controlled substances program for the Outpatient Pharmacy.
- →Coordinates with other departments and agencies to effectively maintain resource accountability.
- →Responsible for enforcement of Service, Hospital, VA, FDA, DEA, State and Federal regulations.
- →Responsible for assuring that all aspects of drug control, drug accountability and drug security are in accordance with local and national policies.
- →Assures medications are dispensed consistent with Joint Commission standards, VA requirements, and Federal and State Laws impacting Pharmacy Service.
- →Oversees day-to-day maintenance and operation of pharmacy equipment and automation, ScriptPro, My HealtheVet, etc.
- →Utilizes available reporting functions to optimize the efficiency of these systems.
- →Works with the management staff to identify areas of rework or waste and develop solutions to streamline processes, save costs, and improve patient care.
- →Develops performance standards that are realistic, challenging, and support the organizational mission, vision, and goals.
- →Ensures that employees meet performance standards and competencies and identifies areas for improvement as needed.
- →Clinical Promotes a patient-focused, team-based multi-disciplinary model of pharmaceutical care to promote drug prescribing, medication monitoring, and drug laboratory review that assures positive outcomes from medication use.
- →Enhances current pharmacy system to place pharmacists into an environment of direct patient and prescriber contact, where pharmacists also have unrestricted access to clinical information.
