About the Role

You will serve as a Park Ranger (I) in River Raisin National Battlefield Park. The primary purpose of this position is to interpret resources to convey national significance; connect visitors to personal relevance; facilitate shared learning; and support specific learning objectives to meet educator and community needs.

What You'll Do

  • Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Develop and present formal and informal audience and learner-centered interpretive experiences using interpretive skills, techniques, and tools delivered in-person and through interpretive media and technology.
  • Use a variety of well-established interpretive techniques based on audience, medium, resource, and setting to guide interactive experiences and provide opportunities for in-person and virtual connections.
  • Enhance in-park experiences by developing and offering a wide variety of fully accessible services and interpretive media.
  • Plan, design, develop, and improve interpretive materials such as signs, waysides, publications, exhibits, and audio, video, and other digital content.
  • Connect with all types of audiences through digital content (e.g., the web, social media, mobile technology, live broadcast or distance programming, podcasts, virtual tours) to introduce, inform, engage, and strengthen relationships between the public and their national parks.
  • Contribute engaging and quality content that is consistent with Public Affairs requirements.
  • Coordinate the operation of a visitor facility and/or information desk that include the following: Develop daily work schedules, monitor visitor services provided by lower graded employees, monitor supply of visitor information materials, and reporting damage and/or malfunctions, when they occur.
  • Coordinate and/or participate in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of black powder storage, demonstrations, and weapons-firing in accordance with NPS Standards for Historic Black Powder Weapons Firing in Areas Administered by the NPS.
  • Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.

  • This probationary or trial period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service.
