What You'll Do

  • The Paralegal Specialist position is located at the U.S.
  • Attorney's Office (USAO) within the Eastern District of Arkansas, Appellate Division.
  • The incumbent will provide paralegal support to attorneys in litigative activities, including performing legal research, legal writing, preparation and management of evidence and discovery.
  • The work of this position involves independently preparing draft briefs and certiorari petitions for the Solicitor General for filing in the U.S.
  • Supreme Court.
  • Typical work assignments will include: Researching and analyzing case facts and applicable points of law and producing appellate briefs.
  • Composing appellate briefs, motions and memoranda of law.
  • Performing detailed and complex legal research in connection with cases involving criminal jurisdiction.
  • Researching legal precedents in opinions, existing legal files, textbooks, legal periodicals, statutes, and court rulings.
  • Preparing documents that summarizes and explains case files, depositions, or interrogatories.
  • Writing appellate briefs and submitting briefs to Court of Appeals.
  • Using computerized research, i.e., Westlaw and explaining relevant findings and conclusions orally and in writing.
  • Monitoring opinions issued by U.S.
  • Supreme Court and Court of Appeals and providing summaries; and Participating in staff meetings by updating attorneys and legal staff on changes in law and/or procedures affecting the Court of Appeals.

Requirements

  • All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S.
  • Department of Education.
