About the Role

The incumbent is a Pharmacy Supervisor at the Central Alabama Veterans Affairs Health Care System (CAVHCS) overseeing outpatient distributive pharmacy services. The supervisor functions at the highest level of pharmacy practice to provide pharmaceutical care to patients and optimizes pharmacy processes and patient care outcomes.

  • Supervisor responsible for the professional and administrative management of Outpatient and Community Care Network areas in pharmacy service, to include budgetary execution. b.
  • Incumbent has responsibility for supervising multiple pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.
  • Develops performance standards, assures that the program area is compliant with all regulatory and accrediting body requirements, designs and implements orientation and training programs for staff, and develops and maintains systems to monitor the performance of staff activities.
  • Maintains, monitors and corrects problems of workflow within assignment areas.
  • Dispensing & Drug Distribution assists in preparation of national, local, and special accreditations of pharmacy service.
  • (Joint Commission, Inspector General, Controlled Substance Inspections, Drug Enforcement Agency) This includes documentation record updates, development of specific training and preparation of staff and compliance of policy and procedures.
  • Processes all orders within areas of responsibility, including non-formulary medication orders.
  • Coordinates with centralized pharmacy areas for preparation/dispensing of drugs to ensure timely delivery.
  • Completes discharge orders and provides discharge teaching to patients in assigned clinical area(s).
  • Documents teaching and interventions as necessary in CPRS C.
  • Medication Management Program Coordination Documents in the medical record, recommendations, concerns and potential medication related issues to communicate these concerns to other health care providers.
  • Serves as a member of committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Consults and advises pharmacy management on all matters relating to pharmacy practice, and works closely with them and their staffs to ensure that programs reflect the mission and priorities of the VHA and VA.
