This position serves as a Orthotist/Prosthetist-Advanced Practitioner within the Orthotic-Prosthetic Laboratory Section of the Edward J. Hines VA Hospital System. The general responsibility of this non-supervisory Orthotist-Prosthetist is to provide the most complex clinical and laboratory prosthetic and orthotic services to disabled patients.
What You'll Do
- →VA Careers - Prosthetics: https://youtube.com/embed/3NUvF5jjErQ Major Duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Treatment of all amputation levels.
- →Serve as advisor to medical professionals regarding indications and contraindications of prosthetic and orthotic componentry, and prescription criteria.
- →Identify biomechanical condition, conduct gait analysis, range of motion, coordination and balance, motor skills, and clinical assessment studies.
- →Interview patients, take necessary measurements, casts or scans, recognize physical abnormalities, deviations, and complicating conditions.
- →Fabricate components, or select and modify components, and assemble them into finished device.
- →Maintain patient records, including electronic records, in accordance with established VA, Federal, and Joint Commission policies and regulations.
- →Conduct in-service trainings.
- →Authorize purchase, fabrication or repair of prosthetic devices.
- →Maintain liaison with manufacturers and dealers of prosthetic supplies, inspecting their facilities and services and participating in award of prosthetic appliance contracts.
- →Participate in investigative/research project studies by selecting patients as wearers of newly developed prosthetic items, evaluate usefulness of such items and compile data.
- →Give technical and administrative advice and assistance on prosthetic problems to other facilities.
- →Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm.

Requirements
- ✓You must be a U.S.

- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
