About the Role
The VA Long Beach is seeking 2 highly skilled/ experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to serve as the Nursing Officer on Duty (NOD). In the absence of the Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Deputy Associate Director for Patient Care Services (ADPCS) during non-administrative tours, is designated authority, responsibility, and accountability for managing and directing employees, staffing units, and allocating resources as necessary.
What You'll Do
- →Rounds to evaluate patient care.
- →Plays an important supportive role in all patient and employee initiatives, such as encouraging staff to complete mandatory education modules.
- →Assists the Nurse Managers by contributing to performance evaluations, educational activities for the non-administrative hour employees, and meeting performance measures.
- →Serves as a consultant to physicians in patient care and resource/disposition planning.
- →Collaborates with the AOD as needed for decisions related to ongoing patient care and actions taken in emergency situations and disasters.
- →Serves as the designated leave granting official during off tours and holidays, and acts in the interests of the agency and Associate Director for Patient Care Services to direct, assign, and supervise work.
- →The NOD is required to exercise independent judgement and devote 100% of their time to exercising such authority.
- →Work Schedule: Varies based on the need of the organization.
- →Rotates tours and collaborates with peers to ensure there is 24/7 coverage.
- →Shifts will focus primarily on evening and night coverage during weekdays, weekends, federal holidays.
- →Telework: Not Eligible Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
- →Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.
