About the Role
This Nursing Assistant position is in the Nursing service with the Central California VA Health Care System located in Fresno California. Under the direction of a Registered or Practical Nurse, the Nursing Assistant (NA) provides direct patient care. The NA operates across diverse settings, including inpatient, outpatient, acute, community living care & home care, supporting patients with both acute & chronic conditions.

- →If selected the candidate can be selected at the GS-03, GS-04, or GS-05 level.
- →GS-03: Nursing Assistants at this grade level function as a member of the nursing care team and assist higher graded Nursing Assistants, licensed nursing staff, and other members of the care team in the care of patients.
- →The employee is assigned to areas requiring specialized skills, perceptive judgment, observation, and use of complex equipment.
- →The significant factor is that they provide care under close supervision and refer issues/questions to supervisors, higher graded Nursing Assistants, or other healthcare professionals.
- →GS-04: Nursing Assistants at this grade level function as a member of the nursing care team and assist higher graded Nursing Assistants, licensed nursing staff, and other members of the care team in the care of patients.
- →The employee is assigned to areas requiring specialized skills, perceptive judgment, observation, and use of complex equipment.
- →The significant factor is that they provide care under close supervision and refer issues/questions to supervisors, higher graded Nursing Assistants, or other healthcare professionals.
- →GS-05: Nursing Assistants at this grade level function as a member of the nursing care team and assist licensed nursing staff in the care of patients.
- →The distinguishing factor is that patient assignments typically involve more complex nursing needs which can vary within a range of predictable to unpredictable requirements.
- →Nursing Assistants at this level also assume more of a peer education/mentorship role.

Requirements
- ✓You must be a U.S.
- ✓Citizen to apply for this job.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.

- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
