What You'll Do
- →Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional As a Nursing Assistant at the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System, you will provide hands-on care that supports Veterans with diverse physical, emotional, and cultural needs.
- →You will work closely with Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and the broader care team to deliver essential daily care, maintain a safe environment, and enhance each Veteran's overall well-being.
- →This role offers the opportunity to build meaningful relationships while contributing to a mission-driven, patient-focused team.
- →Major Duties include, but are not limited to: Provides personal care including bathing, feeding, oral care, hygiene, and supporting range of motion, ambulation, positioning, and self-help activities.
- →Assists with bladder and bowel elimination and related care, including measurement and application of condom catheters.
- →Utilizes glucose monitoring equipment and reports abnormal findings to appropriate staff.
- →Performs diagnostic support such as collecting stool, urine, sputum, and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) swab specimens.
- →Observes and reports changes in physical condition, emotional responses, vital signs, elimination patterns, and other Veteran behaviors to the Registered Nurse (RN).
- →Applies slings, braces, topical creams (not pharmacy-dispensed), repositions oxygen cannulas, and replaces oxygen tanks as needed.
- →Maintains a safe environment by identifying hazards, practicing infection control, and following safety procedures and universal precautions.
- →Supports dining room operations including feeding Veterans, monitoring the dining area, and maintaining cleanliness.
- →Assists with admissions, orientation to unit features, and preparation of clothing for labeling.
- →Provides one-to-one support for Veterans requiring close observation and assists with recreational and cultural activities.
- →Work Schedule: Full Time: Monday-Friday Work is scheduled 3 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.
Requirements

- ✓Citizen to apply for this job.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued dentification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination or evaluation.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- ✓Training provided.
