About the Role

This Nursing Assistant position is located at the Saint Cloud VA Medical Center in Saint Cloud, Minnesota, and provides essential support to Veterans during urgent and emergent situations. As part of a collaborative care team, you will perform hands-on care, assist with diagnostic procedures, and help ensure safe, timely, compassionate treatment under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.

What You'll Do

  • Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Major duties include, but are not limited to: Provide personal care including bathing, toileting, grooming, positioning, and assisting with activity using proper body mechanics.
  • Support bowel and bladder elimination, collect specimens, manage urinary drainage devices, and perform bladder scans per facility policy.
  • Assist with respiratory support by positioning Veterans, maintaining an open airway, and setting up and administering oxygen therapy as ordered.
  • Observe, maintain, and promote skin integrity following evidence-based guidelines and facility procedures.
  • Obtain, record, and report vital signs and measurements including temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, height, weight, pulse oximetry, and pain.
  • Report significant changes in a Veteran's physical or psychosocial condition to the Registered Nurse or Urgent Care Provider.
  • Perform electrocardiogram (EKG) procedures and point-of-care blood glucose testing and report results per policy.
  • Provide care to Veterans receiving intravenous therapy, including observing sites, reporting abnormalities, and removing peripheral intravenous catheters as directed.
  • Assist with emergency measures such as maintaining airway, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and protecting Veterans experiencing seizures.
  • Collect and transport laboratory specimens, restock supplies, clean rooms for patient evaluation, and escort Veterans and families as needed.
  • Work Schedule: Full-time, 8:00am - 4:30pm, Rotating weekends and holidays required.

  • Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
  • Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

  • Must obtain/maintain basic life support (BLS) certification.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
