About the Role
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
What You'll Do
- →The Wound Care Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care for Veterans with acute and chronic wounds through assessment, planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of care.
- →The incumbent utilizes evidence-based practice to promote optimal patient outcomes, prevent complications, and support quality improvement initiatives.
- →The nurse collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, provides education to patients, families, and staff, and participates in performance improvement activities related to wound management and pressure injury prevention.
- →The position requires effective communication, clinical judgment, and a commitment to delivering safe, patient-centered care across the continuum of care.
- →Duties include but are not limited to: Provides nursing care to patients with acute and chronic wounds through comprehensive assessment, treatment planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
- →Synthesizes and prioritizes assessment data to develop individualized care plans and appropriate interventions for wound management.
- →Utilizes evidence-based practice and current research findings to guide clinical decision-making and improve patient outcomes.
- →Conducts ongoing evaluation of treatment goals and modifies care plans based on patient response and clinical findings.
- →Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care, facilitate communication, and ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered treatment.
- →Coordinates care to prevent and manage wound-related complications and promote optimal healing outcomes.
- →Provides education and consultation to patients, families, caregivers, and healthcare staff regarding wound prevention, treatment, and management strategies.
- →Participates in quality improvement and performance improvement initiatives related to wound care and pressure injury prevention.
- →Monitors, evaluates, and analyzes clinical and performance data to identify opportunities for improving patient care and organizational processes.
- →Serves as a clinical resource regarding wound care products, treatment modalities, specialty support surfaces, and best practices in wound management.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.
