About the Role
The Registered Nurse - Western Blind Rehabilitation Center (WBRC) is an inpatient staff RN who provides and supervises direct care for Veterans with visual impairments. The RN uses the full nursing process, coordinates rehab-focused, patient-education-centered care, administers medications and procedures per policy, and serves as charge nurse providing direct patient care as needed.
What You'll Do
- →The major duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to: Provides specialized nursing care to Veterans with visual impairments resulting from eye disease, chronic illness, brain injuries, and/or diabetes.
- →Coordinates and implements patient care using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation) based on age-specific components Leads and organizes delivery of care to ensure continuity and accountability in alignment with ANA Standards of Nursing Practice.
- →Administers medications and procedures according to established policies and guidelines.
- →Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to influence care outcomes and improve patient experience.
- →Assumes charge nurse responsibilities while providing direct patient care as needed.
- →Focuses on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
- →Leads initiatives to improve Veteran experience, including care coordination, timeliness, and environment of care concerns.
- →Demonstrates expertise in evidence-based practice and resource management to ensure efficient, cost-effective care.
- →Maintains competency through mandatory unit-specific meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.

- ✓Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program.
- ✓(Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6); OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant an appointment as a Nurse who has completed an associated degree/entry level Nursing education program.
