What You'll Do
- →TThe Inpatient Mental Health (MH) Registered Nurse (RN) provides and leads the delivery of competent, evidence-based, patient-centered, and recovery-oriented nursing care within the inpatient MH setting.
- →The incumbent independently manages the therapeutic milieu, maintains self-awareness while caring for patients with mental health conditions, and serves as a clinical and professional resource to the nursing team.
- →Major duties include, but are not limited to: Facilitates shift reports, warm hand-offs, and nurse-led psychoeducational groups.
- →Employs therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques, utilizing recovery-oriented language in all patient interactions.
- →Actively participates in the MH interdisciplinary treatment team and MH Environment of Care rounds.
- →Assumes team lead responsibilities during psychiatric emergencies.
- →Identifies, reports, and assists in resolving safety concerns and hazardous items to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.
- →Documents nursing assessments, plans of care, patient safety observations, and environmental safety rounds in accordance with facility policy.
- →Maintains professional boundaries to protect patient vulnerabilities and safeguard patient welfare.
- →Administers medications and procedures in accordance with established policies and clinical guidelines.
- →Provides oversight of licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) and mental health technicians, as applicable to the unit.
- →Assists in directing nursing education, orientation, and competency validation activities.
- →Contributes to quality improvement initiatives and outcomes utilization consultation.
- →Provides peers with informal, constructive feedback to support professional growth.
