About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

What You'll Do

  • On the Nurse Practitioner NG 61 pay scale The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) leads facility efforts in population management for health promotion and disease-management initiatives.
  • They collaborate with primary care teams, specialty services, and community partners to strengthen preventive care delivery and support evidence-based wellness programs.
  • The NP manages training and coaching activities for clinical staff and applies data, performance metrics, and structured action plans to monitor outcomes and drive continuous quality improvement.
  • They ensure effective coordination of behavioral health and wellness activities across primary care, aligning programs with facility priorities and identified population needs.
  • The NP practices in Primary Care Service to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission.
  • The NP provides advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management.
  • The NP practices to the full extent of their education, training, and certification.

  • The NP has prescriptive authority for a panel of patients or program as indicated by their position.

  • Major duties and responsibilities of the position: Clinical Care Duties Independently manages a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management.
  • Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with Primary Care Team and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Orders and interprets labs, tests, and diagnostic studies.
  • Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • English Language Proficiency.
  • In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
