About the Role
The Advanced Practice Nurse {APN) II Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner {PMHNP) practices in Mental Health {MH) to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs {VA) mission. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program.
What You'll Do
- →Duties include but not limited to: Assess status of veterans with serious mental illness, and planning, intervening and evaluating indicated actions.
- →Knowledge of the principles, concepts, theories, and methodology of General Nursing Practice and Mental Health Nursing practice.
- →Complete history and physical on all new admissions.
- →Participate in the interdisciplinary team in development of a comprehensive plan of care for each patient.
- →Knowledge of normal developmental theory including the aging process and basic concepts of gerontology, knowledge of adult and geriatric psychology, and knowledge of the special needs of the physically disabled and the frail elderly.
- →Complete some skilled nurse functions such as completing primary care clinical reminders, providing medication education and disease education, and obtaining lab work.
- →Knowledge of VHA programs as well as community housing programs that serve the homeless.
- →Skill is using computer applications related to data collection and interpretation, program evaluation, and clinical services.
- →Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with people from diverse backgrounds.
- →Ability to function independently, meets deadlines, and function under pressure.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓English Language Proficiency.
- ✓In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
