About the Role

This position is located at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center. In this position the APRN is involved in clinical management of patients specific to the Gastroenterology/Hepatology section. Responsibilities will include direct patient care, including telephone, video, and face-to-face outpatient care, ordering, and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, educating patients and caregivers, consultation, and research.

What You'll Do

  • Nurse Practitioner (NP): Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care.
  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care based on age-specific components.
  • Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction.
  • Considers all characteristics of the individual, including age and life stages, state of health, race and culture, values, and previous experiences.
  • Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.
  • Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives as well as customer service programs.
  • Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others (VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G6).
  • The nurse practitioner will demonstrates proficiency in decision-making and using the nursing process for complex situations that effect performance outcomes at the point of care.
  • Practice is enhanced through development of collegial relationships.
  • This nurse demonstrates self-sufficiency by the ability to solve problems independently.
  • The focus is on leadership in strategically planning long-term goals for the microsystem (unit, team, or workgroup) that impacts operations or resources.
  • The proficient nurse demonstrates critical thinking with efficiency and accuracy in assessing and managing situations.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
