About the Role
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program, a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
What You'll Do
- →The Float (Gap) Nurse Practitioner will provide acute, short or long-term coverage for an individual patient or a panel of patients in the primary care service and that presents to the community -based outpatient clinic for care.
- →When the NP is not temporarily assigned to a panel of patients, he/she will provide immediate care/same day coverage, assist with performance improvement activities to improve quality metrics, conduct virtual care visits, or assist with other clinical duties as assigned.
- →The NP performs independently or in collaboration with the provider to carry out the plan of care for the Veteran.
- →He/she appropriately delegates to other Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) members, but is responsible for diagnosing and treating medical problems, care coordination to higher level of care, and making complex clinical decisions.
- →Location: This position will involve some travel between the Huntsville Main Clinic and Huntsville West, located on Redstone Arsenal at Fox Army Health Center.
- →Telework: Ad-hoc Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
- →EDRP Authorized: Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply for incentive.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓English Language Proficiency.
- ✓In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
