About the Role
The Malcom Randall Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville, FL, is seeking a highly qualified Nurse Manager (NM) for the Medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The Nurse Manager is the designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the 24/7 operation of their assigned units and provides coverage for other NMs as needed.
What You'll Do
- →The Nurse Manager is responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision in the Medical (ICU), including the orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance.
- →Functions or scope of assigned duties include, but are not limited to: Uses expert clinical judgment in the delivery of care, resulting in a positive impact/improvement at the program and/or service level.
- →Guides staff in the implementation of the nursing process and evaluation of patient care outcomes.
- →Organizes care delivery in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team in a manner that promotes continuity and accountability for patient care.
- →Is innovative and self-directed in developing and implementing complex and sophisticated programs for optimizing patient care and enhanced management of resources.
- →Participates in the development of Service Line/Service philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures.
- →Responsible for assuring that philosophy, objectives, and necessary policies and procedures are implemented.
- →Implements procedures and monitors compliance by staff members.
- →Initiates and implements corrective actions as indicated.
- →Manages assigned resources and identifies creative strategies to increase efficiency within area(s) and program.
- →Evaluates unit-based staffing needs in terms of quantity and practice level of personnel required.
- →Prepares reports and analyzes data to assure resources are efficiently used, while providing quality care in assigned area(s).
- →Takes a leadership role in providing input and participating in the budgetary process at the area(s) and service level.
- →Collaborates with other professionals to participate in the recruitment and retention of quality staff.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.
- ✓As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 2-year probationary period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
- ✓In determining if your employment advances the public interest, we may consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.
