About the Role

The Malcom Randall Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville, FL, is seeking a highly qualified Nurse Manager (NM) for the Specialty Outpatient Clinic. The NM is a clinical expert and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care.

What You'll Do

  • The Nurse Manager (NM) is the designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the operation of their assigned units and provides coverage for other NMs as needed.
  • Functions or scope of assigned duties include, but are not limited to: Organizes care delivery for the clinic programs in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team in a manner that promotes continuity and accountability for patient care.
  • Provides direct care to the clinic patient(s).
  • Participates in the development of Service Line/Service philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Responsible for assuring that philosophy, objectives, and necessary policies and procedures are implemented.
  • Implements procedures and monitors compliance by staff members.
  • Initiates and implements corrective actions as indicated.
  • Initiates and leads program planning and problem identification/resolution leading to an improvement of care for the clinic program and unit.
  • Manages assigned resources and identifies creative strategies to increase efficiency within area(s) and program.
  • Evaluates unit-based staffing needs in terms of quantity and practice level of personnel required.
  • Prepares reports and analyzes data to assure resources are efficiently used, while providing quality care in assigned area(s).
  • Takes a leadership role in providing input and participating in the budgetary process at the area(s) and service level.
  • Evaluates the need for new equipment, plans for future equipment, and space needs on the unit.
  • Explores and evaluates equipment options, completes preparation of required request, and manages assigned control funds.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.
  • As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 2-year probationary period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
  • In determining if your employment advances the public interest, we may consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.
  • Upon completion of your probationary period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
