This position is for a Registered Nurse is in the Geriatric & Extended Care Unit (GEC) - Home Based Primary Care, located at the Hampton VA Medical Center in Hampton Virginia.
What You'll Do
- →Duties The Nursing, GEC Nurse Manager (NM) is a registered professional nurse Responsible for the assessment, planning, provision and evaluation of nursing care on inpatient and outpatient services.
- →NM provides 24/7 responsibility and accountability including weekends, and holidays.
- →Responsible and accountable for the management and supervision of all nursing staff personnel on all tours of duty.
- →Executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex client Responsible for directing and organizing the unit specific orientation, training and development of staff and for directing, supervising, and evaluating their performance.
- →Accountable for the provision of direct patient care and for the delivery of quality nursing care during times when the unit staffing is low and necessary to provide safe care to the veterans.
- →Functions as nursing role model, educator, practitioner and manager, providing leadership to an interdisciplinary team.
- →Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of patients served in the assigned area of practice.
- →This knowledge includes understanding changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric population.
- →Responsible for providing leadership in delivering and improving care through the collaboration with others.
- →May receive a variety of additional assignments or special projects to either meet the needs of the Medical Center or designed for the growth of the individual.
- →Accountable and responsible for possessing the knowledge and skill to communicate and interact appropriately and courteously with all internal and external customers.
- →Will maintain confidentiality of electronic, written and verbal patient/employee information.
- →Demonstrate working practices that include adherence to infection control standards and the safe use and operation of equipment.
- →The NM will treat customers in a courteous and helpful manner that indicates dignity and respect.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
