About the Role
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
What You'll Do
- →As an RN in Interventional Radiology (IR), the nurse primarily handles the application of the nursing process for veteran patients before and after various IR and pain procedures.
- →This includes providing pre-, intra-, and post-procedural care, administering moderate sedation and analgesia per policies, and educating patients and families about relevant procedures and conditions in MRI, CT, US, and IR.
- →The IR RN also manages follow-up care, reviews discharge instructions, and prepares patient charts for radiologic procedures.
- →The IR RN also assists with procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab as needed; may work up to two days per week in the Cardiac Cath Lab.
- →The nurse promotes, advocates for, and strives to protect the health, safety, and rights of the patient (ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses).
- →Listens to and honors patient and family perspectives and choices.
- →Incorporates patient and family knowledge, values, beliefs, and cultural backgrounds into the planning and delivery of care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner (Patient and Family Centered Care).
- →Demonstrates leadership in patient advocacy, in protecting the health, safety, and rights of patients.
- →Maintains professional boundaries with patients, families, and employees.
- →Behavior as a role model is transparent and above reproach.
- →Demonstrates leadership by guiding practice in identifying and addressing concerns that impact patients and staff.
- →Initiates/participates in consultations with health care teams regarding ethical issues.
- →Safeguards patient privacy and maintains confidentiality of all electronic and printed patient information according to HIPAA guidelines, the Privacy Act, and as stated in the Medical Center Memo on ADP Security.
- →Maintains confidentiality of assigned access code and by exiting (logging out) from the ADP system when leaving terminal.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation/examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
