About the Role

The purpose of this position is to provide specialized care to patients who have been affected by Domestic Violence/Intimate Partner Violence, working with victims to provide physical assessments, document injuries, develop treatment plans, to provide emotional support and referrals to community resources to help victims access additional services. This position is located at the Shiprock Service Unit. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

  • Total Compensation Package - Check out IHS's outstanding total compensation package for this job: Registered Nurse Total Compensation | Pay (ihs.gov) Designs, implements, coordinates and evaluates the local Domestic Violence/Intimate Partner Violence forensic nurse.
  • The DV/IPV Program includes the aims, goals, objectives, activities, and care coordination of the needs of survivors of domestic violence victims and intimate partner violence.
  • Participates in preventive health activities with local team; provides primary prevention activities regarding domestic violence/intimate partner violence in local schools; conducts in-service education for nursing and medical staff regarding forensic medical evidence collection; consults with the local law enforcement and prosecutor office regarding medical related issues and forensic evidence.
  • Assists nursing team care coordinators with all subspecialty clinics and in the Emergency Department; provides specialized health education to DV/IPV victims with special health care needs; organizes and coordinates multidisciplinary care conferences on medically complex and high-risk patients.
  • Plans program expansion to provide a Pediatric Sexual Assault/Abuse program.
  • Assists with patient care in the Emergency Department, utilizes the nursing process and provides skilled and comprehensive nursing care to patients.
  • Closely observes patients for conditions requiring emergency measures; recognizes, identifies, and interprets serious clinical situations; initiates and provides appropriate immediate/emergency measures.
