Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising staff education. Delivers a fundamental understanding of adult learning principles and a lifelong learner that can practice with flexibility to adapt or change learning strategies based on the assessment of learning needs within the healthcare organization. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates educational needs to facilitate learner development and skill training of clinical staff.
What You'll Do
- →The Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for providing expert, evidence-based education to staff.
- →Provides educational instruction and training for nursing staff in clinical and outpatient units.
- →The Clinical Nurse Educator understands instructional design, implementation, and application related to education and training.
- →Performs learning needs assessments, develops educational trainings for clinical staff within organization.
- →The incumbent serves as the co-coordinator and educator for the RN Transition to Practice (TTP)/Post Baccalaureate Nurse Residency (PBNR) Program, as well as the primary coordinator for the facility's Pathway to Excellence program.
- →In this capacity, the incumbent shares responsibility and accountability for post baccalaureate nurse residents and transition to practice nurses, ensuring that all nursing care delivered by subordinate personnel meets established standards of clinical practice.
- →As Co-coordinator of the residency programs, the incumbent assists with student and resident orientation, evaluates learner progress within the PBRNR and VANAP programs, and supports the development and implementation of individualized learning plans to address identified performance gaps.
- →The role also supports the creation and enhancement of residency curriculum using strategic educational methodologies, including simulation, lectures, case studies, and virtual reality based learning.
- →As the Pathway to Excellence Coordinator, the incumbent leads efforts that support the organization's achievement and sustained maintenance of the ANCC Pathway to Excellence designation.
- →This includes coordinating activities, documentation, and initiatives that strengthen a positive nursing practice environment.
- →The role collaborates closely with nursing leadership, shared governance councils, and frontline staff to ensure alignment with Pathway standards.
- →Key responsibilities include collecting and organizing evidence, facilitating staff engagement efforts, supporting culture building initiatives, and managing timelines for survey submissions and redesignation processes.
- →The coordinator also tracks progress toward goals, assists in developing educational and communication materials, and helps maintain structures that foster professional nursing practice, teamwork, and high quality patient care.
- →Work schedule subject to change based on the needs of the agency.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
