About the Position: This position is with Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in the Directorate of Nursing Surgical Unit in Honolulu, Hawaii. Tripler Army Medical Center is a tobacco-free workplace. Tobacco products include, but are not limited to, smoking, smokeless tobacco, and electronic nicotine delivery devices.
What You'll Do
- →Formulate an age appropriate nursing care plan in accordance with standards of practice.
- →Identify wellness and risk factors, notifies health care provider if current care plan requires revision, and modifies the nursing care plan as needed.
- →Administer oxygen, IV fluid, continuous IV medication infusions, blood transfusion and prescribed oral, subcutaneous, and intramuscular medications.
- →Administer and support infusion therapy services to patients in need of this service.
- →Operate and monitor medical equipment such as oxygen masks, intravenous infusion pumps, wall suction, cardiovascular monitors, and EKG machines.
- →Manage nasal-pharyngeal and gastric suction as well as a variety of other drainage tubes.
- →Perform various pulmonary treatments such as oxygen and nebulizer therapy.
- →Administer and monitor the use of therapeutic agents (medications) and pain-relieving drugs including narcotics and antibiotics, familiar with correct dosages and potential side effects.
- →Recognize significant and life-threatening changes in patient condition, including changes in cardiac rhythm evidenced by telemetry, and takes appropriate action.
- →Provide comprehensive, multi-disciplinary treatment for acute safety crises, medication monitoring, and stabilization of acute symptoms to support the safe transfer of care to outpatient settings.
- →Provide specialized information and education related to patient’s illness and disease process, pre and post-operative care, diagnostic procedures, use of equipment related to disease/care, expected and possible adverse reactions to medications.
- →Communicate with other staff members and inpatient units to maintain continuity of care.
- →Perform the duties of charge nurse of a particular shift and will assume the responsibility for promoting quality, cost-effective nursing care within the framework of mission objectives of the Chief Nursing Officer.
