About the Role
Functions as a clinical expert and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
What You'll Do
- →Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team and creating innovative process improvement initiatives.
- →The Register Nurse (RN)-Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) for the ICU's and ED serves as an assistant with line authority to the Nurse Manager (NM) in providing leadership and direction to nursing staff.
- →He/she is accountable for adhering to established policies, standards of care and standards of practice; demonstrating leadership in improving nursing care; and the administration, management, supervision and evaluation of both nursing care and nursing personnel.
- →He/she demonstrates, promotes, creates, and ensures the values and needs of all individuals are respected.
- →He/she provides an environment that fosters employees to perform to their full individual potential.
- →The ANM advocates for and allocates available resources to promote efficient, effective, safe, and compassionate nursing care, provide input to NM decisions, and keep staff informed of activities.
- →He/she is delegated Acting NM in the absence of the NM.
- →In collaboration with the NM, functions as a supervisor and assumes accountability for the operation of the assigned unit.
- →This includes the management, supervision, and evaluation of care delivered by assigned staff.
- →The ANM is responsible for contributing to the establishment and implementation of evidence-based nursing standards of practice.
- →In collaboration with the NM, creates a positive work environment which enhances care delivery and professional development of clinically competent staff.
- →He/she is responsible for supervision of staff, time and leave approval, input to nurse manager on staff performance, and collecting and preparing evidence for inquires and disciplinary actions in collaboration with the NM.
- →The Nurse Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) supports the Nurse Manager (NM) with supervisory duties and responsibility and accountability for the 24/7 operation of their designated units.
- →They provide coverage for other ANMs as needed.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
