About the Role
The Acute Care Chief Nurse assigned to CTVHCS with a primary duty station in Temple, Texas, executes leadership that is characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility and accountability for population groups or integrated programs that cross services and/or discipline lines, and influence the organizational healthcare mission.
What You'll Do
- →CTVHCS is in the process of making a cultural change, shifting from a disease-focused approach to a health and wellbeing approach, in order to implement the Whole Health System of Care.
- →This is a VA-wide initiative to provide a comprehensive and systematic approach to improve healthcare delivery at all stages of Veteran care.
- →This entails moving from an episodic, "siloed" approach to an interdisciplinary, holistic approach, emphasizing self-care in the larger context of well-being.
- →The Acute Care Chief Nurse (CN) functions as an advisor, administrator, educator, consultant, and mentor who possesses a wide range of experience and leadership ability.
- →The CN, Acute Care provides senior leadership and oversight for daily clinical and administrative operations within nursing as directed by the Associate Director for Patient Care Services (ADPCS).
- →They are a key member of the nursing executive leadership team and is responsible for all aspects of care, administrative oversight and direction to assigned programs within the service.
- →Collaborates with and provides leadership in the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive programming.
- →Responsible for efficient and effective management of resources within assigned area of responsibility.
- →Responsible for assessing and recommending the allocations of human and material resources, in determining staffing levels, managing overtime and recruitment and retention of nursing staff.
- →Possesses solid knowledge of Nursing regulations, Veterans Health Administration (VHA) guidelines, medical review criteria, clinical practice and documentation requirements, current standards of care, and compliance guidelines.
- →The CN, Acute Care supports the integration and collaboration of nursing with other professional disciplines and functional areas in the mutual achievement of patient-centered and organizational goals.
- →They champion a High Reliability Organization (HRO) of safety founded on a systems approach to developing evidence-based health care solutions based on prevention, not punishment, with collective mindfulness.
- →Fosters a climate for practice that enhances job satisfaction through mutual responsibility for productivity and quality improvement.
- →The CN, Acute Care collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, including other program and service leaders at the facility and network.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

- ✓Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN), Master of Science degree in Nursing (MSN) or Doctoral degree in nursing must be fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission On Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
