About the Role
The Kansas City VA Medical Center is recruiting a full-time nephrology and critical care physician. The Kansas City VA Medical Center provides nephrology and critical care services for Veterans. The nephrology/critical care physician is responsible for delivering high-quality inpatient and outpatient care across both specialties.

- →Duties of this position include but are not limited to: Taking history, performing physical examinations, admissions, evaluations, diagnoses, and treatments, including consultations.
- →Assessing and managing patients presenting with acute and chronic kidney disease, electrolyte disorders, critical illness, etc.
- →Providing consultation for, diagnosing, and treating nephrological conditions, including acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, glomerular diseases, etc.
- →Managing dialysis modalities, including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT).
- →Providing comprehensive critical care management for ICU patients, including ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, and complex multisystem illness.
- →Rounding with residents and fellows on inpatient nephrology and/or critical care services.
- →Participating in call rotation with other physicians.
- →Participating in telehealth services between the main medical center and Community Based Outpatient Clinics as appropriate.
- →Counseling and advising patients with kidney disease and complex critical care needs.
- →Ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies including laboratory evaluations including urine microscopy and imaging.
- →Providing ongoing outpatient nephrology care for an assigned panel of patients.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.

- ✓Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
