This intermittent position is located in the Transportation Section of the Engineering Service within the Hudson Valley Healthcare System and will be required to work at the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Hospital in Montrose, NY and the Castle Point VA Medical Center in Wappingers Falls, NY. This is an intermittent position that works irregular hours including weekends and evenings, based on the needs of the medical center.
What You'll Do
- →NOTE: Intermittent employment is defined as non-fulltime employment in which employees serve under an excepted or competitive service appointment without a regularly scheduled tour of duty.
- →A position with an intermittent work schedule is sporadic and unpredictable so that a tour of duty cannot be regularly scheduled in advance.
- →This position does not offer health insurance.
- →DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- →Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- →Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
- →MAJOR DUTIES: Operates a variety of motor vehicles including cargo, van, trucks, and buses.
- →These vehicles range from a pickup truck to larger trucks and buses, which are gasoline or diesel powered with approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 26,000 pounds and up to 35,000 pounds.
- →This includes Freightliner M2 and similar vehicles with gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) 35,000 pounds, Freightliner MBs and similar vehicles with GVWR 33,000 pounds, Freightliner MBCs and similar with GVWR 33,000 pounds each, Rosenbauer Commanders and similar with GVWR 33,000 pounds, and Freightliner FL70s and similar with GVWR 31,000 pounds.
- →Operates trucks and vehicles approximately 65% of the time while on duty.
- →This may fluctuate depending on assigned routes and seasonal trips.
- →Some of these vehicles have two or more gear ranges and are equipped with such driving controls as gearshift lever, brake pedal, accelerator, clutch, and levers for supplying power to driving wheels.
- →These vehicles are usually equipped with air brakes.
- →Vehicles are driven either as specifically assigned or on a regular basis to transport patients and family members, supplies, materials, or equipment throughout the medical center complex and the local public area.
