The purpose of this position is to operate patient transport vehicles, including emergency vehicles, patient transport vans/buses, and other types of transport vehicles that are capable of carrying up to 8 or more passengers to and from VA Medical Center facilities, private healthcare facilities, and other private sector areas such as, patient homes, railway, bus stations and airports. Incumbent drives predetermined and/or scheduled routes or special runs.
What You'll Do
- →Major duties and responsibilities include: Operates gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles with a typical gross weight of 22,000 to 32,000 pounds.
- →Operates other vehicles and performs other tasks as assigned by the Fleet Manager/Operations Supervisor.
- →Loading and unloading patients and medical supplies.
- →Assists patients to their scheduled destinations and remains with patient; if necessary.
- →Signs for certified mail and patient belongings, and delivers to the appropriate officials.
- →Responsible for ensuring all government, state, and local traffic laws regulations are obeyed.
- →Updates travel logs on GSA vehicles that are used after each trip.
- →Cleans and washes vehicles, checks tire pressure and inflates as necessary, and checks liquid levels such as, oil and gas etc.
- →Possessing Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement is required for the position.
